Leona Hosack-Artist Statement:

 

As a Baha’i inspired writer /illustrator, I love showing the challenges of a changing relationship

between the main character and the significant adults, siblings or friends in her or his life.

I enjoy depicting how the dissonance in the story facilitates the movement towards wholeness and

completion, as well as how being inspired by new spiritual ideas encourages the protagonist to change.

I especially love learning to depict in my illustrations, characters of varying races and cultures,

and to visually show diversity of all kinds in the lives of my characters! And through my music I love sharing inspirational concepts

and ideas that help us to resolve conflicts and celebrate life.

Educational Background:

I studied visual design/ illustration at Umass at Dartmouth, and Art Education in Maine at UNE,

Biddeford,Me.,USM, Gorham,Me. and Heartwood School of Art in Kennebunk, Maine.

I have worked in early childhood education for many years,

which has inspired my love of drawing children as well as my love of children's books!

Live Caricaturing and Silhouetting:

Since 2010, I've been doing hand-cut silhouettes and caricatures at historic houses, festivals,

special events, weddings, and parties throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts,

including project graduation events, weddings, splash parks, excursion tours, and corporate parties. I also do virtual events!

Music:
As a singer-songwriter I have performed original and traditional songs

with the Folk-Blues group Salt River for many years.
